Today, the concept of leadership is becoming increasingly widespread in all that concerns the self-development of a person as a participant in the economic, social, and cultural environment, as well as the global society as a whole. The development of individual leadership allows a person to act effectively in all these areas, without violating the permissible boundaries, including ethical ones, which contributes to the common good.Leadership includes both natural aspects of personality that a person cannot control, but can adapt to the needs of the environment, as well as those aspects that are determined by his or her goals, beliefs and needs of the environment and, therefore, can be amenable to development. Thus, the task of each effective leader is to both find his or her own place in society and develop his or her own flexible qualities in accordance with the goals set.I defined leadership by an example as a style consistent with my beliefs, natural predispositions, and the needs of modern society. In addition, I also identified obstacles to the development of such leadership and an action plan to eliminate them.

Statement of Personal Purpose and Values

Many studies confirm my opinion that modern leadership is a much broader concept and covers such areas as human resources management, strategic management, and social responsibility (Crane and Matten, 2016). The relationship between leadership and human resource management is due to the relationships between people inside and outside the organization. In this case, an important role is played by the personal aspect associated with behavior motivation, personality traits, and cultural competence and sensitivity (Northouse, 2018). Consequently, in this part, my personal goal is to develop the abilities of intercultural understanding, the practice of applying motivational models to specific situations, recognizing the practical benefits of certain personality traits depending on the needs of the team and the organizational environment.

Leadership in the context of strategic management refers to the distribution of priorities among stakeholders, including the leader himself. An effective leader is also able to determine the primary tasks that will ensure maximum results (Storey, 2016). The main assistant in the development of this ability is an extensive base of experience. Consequently, the second of my goals is to constantly study the cases described in the literature, analyze them based on advanced strategic tools, work with statistical data and interpret them in order to build a forecast. All this will allow me to develop my analytical skills that every effective leader should possess.

Finally, Hansen et al. define the essential role of corporate social responsibility in the context of the development of the science of business management (2016). At the same time, corporate social responsibility begins with individual social responsibility. Moreover, it is based on knowledge of the principles of ethics and morality from the point of view of various philosophical schools (Yazdani and Murad, 2015). Consequently, my third goal is to operate with principles of ethics and morality in my decisions, correlation of my life position with these principles and its revision. All this affects my leadership qualities, which are necessary in the context of the current features of a business that is developing against the backdrop of globalization.

In essence, an effective leader is himself a source of finding solutions based on all the knowledge, skills, and experience gained. At the same time, he is often forced to resist the averaged majority opinion, pressure from influential stakeholders, and his own prejudices (Heifetz and Linsky, 2017). Thus, the main among my values are the principle of critical thinking and independence of judgment, which will minimize personal prejudices in the way of achieving goals.

An Assessment of Who I am Now

In my opinion, the assessment of the effectiveness of leadership includes an assessment of the degree of achievement of all the above goals. However, at this stage of leadership self-development, I mostly proceed from my own personal qualities and leadership style as the basis for the development of mental and practical abilities, as well as the interaction abilities necessary for achieving the goals. There are many tests based on which one can talk about personal qualities and predisposition to a particular style of leadership. Such tests ensure an objective assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of the individual with respect to certain aspirations. One of the most popular and comprehensive questionnaires is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, which comprehensively takes into account internal motivational aspects and their external manifestations (Furnham, 2017). According to the results of testing personal qualities, I have Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging (ESFJ) personality type (The Myers & Briggs Foundation – MBTI® Basics, 2019). People with this type of personality have strong leadership qualities. They set the tone, are in the spotlight and lead their teams to victory and glory. In life, people with this type of personality continue to enjoy the support of their friends and loved ones, organizing social meetings and doing everything possible to make sure everyone is happy.Such people are more concerned with tangible, practical issues, including raising their social status and observing others (The Myers & Briggs Foundation – MBTI® Basics, 2019). Watching what happens around them is their main occupation, and they do their best to do something good.I prefer to follow the rules, well-established traditions, and laws. In my judgments, I rely on a rational basis, not a philosophy. However, it is also important for me not to forget that people have different origins and different points of view, and that which may seem right to them is not always the absolute truth. I respect the hierarchy and make every effort to achieve a certain authority at home and at work; in that way, I can provide clarity, stability, and structure for all.

What I Want to Achieve

I want to be a leader who inspires team members to achieve outstanding results even when he does not do anything. In my opinion, such leadership lives and continues to inspire even after the death of its carrier. However, I understand that this level of leadership can be achieved only with time based on a personal example. Therefore, for leadership to be effective, it is necessary to put a lot of effort into laying its foundation based on a personal example. Leadership by personal example involves both a high degree of orientation to the task and to people, as well as personal participation in solving problems at different levels of management (Campbell, 2019). Such leadership ensures the dissemination the values of the leader in the organization and beyond its limits, and, consequently, demands high personal responsibility, including ethical and social one (Northouse, 2018). I prefer this style of leadership based on a natural predisposition to ethical social behavior, which, in my opinion, is one of the most promising areas of development of management science and practice in the context of global issues.

Leadership Vision

Leadership Strengths. Communication, initiative, ethics, altruism, self-organization and self-discipline, the ability to plan and predict belong to my strengths. Thanks to the first two qualities, as a future leader, I am valuable in helping to solve various conflict situations, shaping public opinion, image and reputation of the company, interacting with various groups of stakeholders, and developing and implementing related activities that contribute to the company’s image.Ethics and altruism are fully consistent with my goals of developing individual social responsibility as part of ethical leadership. The ability to plan and predict is useful for an effective leader in the context of strategic management and crisis prevention. However, if a clear organization and compliance with the plan are what makes me confident in my abilities, then these qualities may be in part of my weaknesses since, in real life, everything often goes unplanned.

Leadership Weaknesses. Weak tolerance to risk and critical thinking do not correspond to the understanding of an effective leader in the context of business globalization and dynamic external environment. The undermining of established opinions leads to the search for a more valuable and relevant conceptual framework for solving problems. However, I feel the need for a highly structured task and a clear definition of roles. Despite active participation in various events, I prefer them to be planned and clearly organized. On the contrary, an effective leader must be able to make decisions in a situation with a high degree of uncertainty. In fact, a leader’s value is determined by his or her ability to take an organization out of a crisis.

Finally, the desire to take a certain place in the hierarchy also applies to my weaknesses in the context of goals. The fact is that a leader exists for a team, not a team for a leader, and power is a means, not a purpose. Consequently, an effective leader is focused on achieving maximum public benefit in the system of relations within the organization and beyond rather than on his or her own benefit and realization of ambitions.

An Action Plan

A constant search for contradictions, analysis of situations that are exceptions to the rules, contributes to the generation of doubt, and, as a result, critical thinking. The development of psychological self-control through such practices as yoga, the study of philosophy and psychology will allow me to feel more confident in unpredictable situations in order to be able to apply my knowledge, and skills in immediate decisions. Exploring the practical role of team building in achieving outstanding results will contribute to the realization that unity with the team means the ability to empower and share responsibility among all the participants (Collins, 2018). In the team, each participant has its own value, whereas if one does all the work on his or her own, it will inevitably affect its quality.


Thus, my knowledge of leadership and its role in the development of society has become more structured. Obviously, leadership is a dynamic concept, the task of which is to correspond to the modern realities of the development of civilization. Thus, leadership takes on the significance of a global phenomenon. Like any global phenomenon, leadership begins with the personal contribution of each member of society to its development. In other words, personal leadership is of particular importance, which, in this case, refers to such areas of a person’s life as career, public and personal life. Leadership is an integral part of self-development and is closely related to the development of a theoretical base in areas such as philosophy, ethics and morality, and psychology. The practical part of leadership is based on finding a place for each person, where he finds application for his natural skills, as well as in developing the necessary qualities, knowledge and skills that are useful and applicable in the chosen environment according to his beliefs and preferences. I define my place in the organization as a specialist in public relations. However, my plans go far beyond a particular profession and include achieving outstanding results that can inspire subsequent generations based on my personal example.
